kbdtest processes keyboard events locally in your browser.
Keyboard data
The keyboard tester keeps key codes and counters in page memory. The typing test compares text with its sample locally. We do not send these events or typed text to a server. Leaving or reloading a page resets its test data.
Operating system detection
On the keyboard tester, your browser’s platform information is read locally to choose the initial Windows or Mac layout. This detection does not identify you, make a network request, or save a preference. You can change the selection at any time.
Downloads
Exporting results generates a JSON file on your device. It contains tested key codes, untested key codes, counters, layout and an export timestamp. The file is not uploaded by kbdtest.
Cookies and third parties
The application does not set cookies, use analytics or require an account. Fonts are requested from Google Fonts, which receives ordinary network request information such as your IP address. The hosting provider may process ordinary request logs to deliver and secure the website.
Advertising
This version of the website does not load advertising scripts or set advertising cookies. If advertising is introduced, this policy will be updated to describe the providers and data they use, with consent controls where required before those services are enabled.
Retention and choices
Reloading or leaving a tool clears its in-memory test session. Downloaded reports remain on your device until you delete them. You can block third-party font requests in your browser; system fonts will be used instead. Hosting logs are controlled by the hosting provider rather than the keyboard testing code.
Questions and changes
Use the Contact Us page for privacy questions. Changes to this policy will be posted here with an updated date.
Use with care
Test only the keys you intend to test. Browser and operating system shortcuts may still run. Browser events do not provide a conclusive hardware diagnosis.
